Agatha took a few moments to read the word, trying to under‐ stand what the hand asked of her. Suddenly, the hand pushed the pencil back in her direction, which wobbled toward her, rolling in a lopsided direction from all the dents and bite marks, coming to rest near her knee. She grasped the pencil, feeling its wetness between her fingers, understanding this to be an invitation.

An invitation to ask a question. An invitation to communicate. On the floor next to her, in all capital letters, she neatly wrote: WHERE

She pushed the pencil back toward the waiting arm and hand. As she did so, a thought popped into her head. A memory from a few days ago. Was this what the hand wanted? A feeling of dread started at her toes and worked its way up toward her stomach, where it manifested into a weighted ball of nausea.

The hand once again took the pencil, its fingers slipping and squishing around the wood as it wrote another single word, this time in all capital letters, mimicking Agatha's handwriting. It left spaces between the letters in the word until a familiar face flashed in Agatha's mind:
